The Escort Passport 8500-X50 radar and laser detector can be "hard wired" directly to a keyed 12 volt source, so your Radar Detector turns on and off automatically with the ignition key. Rather than buying a dedicated hard wire kit, instead get yourself a simple standard 2-wire phone jack and cord, which plugs right into the Escort 8500-X50. The center two terminals are the "hot" and "ground" wires as illustrated at the right.

To do this, turn the plug upside down with the exposed terminals facing up. Then find the color of the wire associated with the correct terminal and solder the fine phone wire strands to another slightly larger wire which you can connect to the keyed positive power source and ground locations.

You won't have to buy a dedicated hardwire kit or cannibalize your nice coiled cord that comes with your Escort unit to enjoy the ease and comfort of never having to turn your Escort 8500-X50 radar detector on or off again!
